Canned demolition plan welcomed

*

Secretary for Housing, Planning & Lands Michael Suen welcomes the reversal of demolition plans for Hunghom Peninsula by its developers.

NWS Holdings and Sun Hung Kai Properties said today it will explore unit renovation and reconfiguration, and enhancement of the estate's facilities. Their decision was made after community concern over their initial plans to demolish the estate.

The developers have also pledged to continue their proposed green construction programme and community involvement plans to minimise the impact of any future work on the neighbourhood.

Mr Suen said the move is in line with the original intent of the agreement reached between the Government and the developers in the lease modification completed earlier in the year.

He said the Government will study the developers' renovation proposal and see if there is a need for a regrant premium.
