Public views on cultural project welcome

*

Public views on three West Kowloon Cultural Project proposals will be carefully considered and the project will not proceed in a rush, Permanent Secretary for Housing, Planning & Lands Rita Lau says.

Speaking on a radio talkshow today, Mrs Lau reiterated the Government treasures people's views. Therefore, a public consultation will be launched amid the assessment of project proposals to ensure that public opinions can be taken into account in the project design.

An exhibition showcasing the three project proposals will be staged at the Science Museum from mid-December to better inform the public of details of the proposals. Members of the public are welcome to air their views through questionnaires distributed on site, or by post or email to the Government.

She stressed the project aims to boost cultural development and the Government does not want it to turn into a property development.

On the time schedule, Mrs Lau said works will start no sooner than 2007, adding that the project will not proceed in haste.
