No new reclamation plans: Michael Suen
*

Secretary for Housing, Planning & Lands Michael Suen says there will be no new harbour reclamation plans. He said today the Government shares the public's aspiration to preserve Victoria Harbour, which is one of Hong Kong's most valuable natural assets.

He said of the three outstanding reclamation projects, only imperative and minimum reclamation, which complies with legal requirements, will be conducted.

Central Reclamation Phase III is already the minimum reclamation that serves to meet pressing transport needs, while the Wan Chai Development is under review to reduce the extent of reclamation.

He said the Government has launched a new round of consultation to listen views on the proposed development of the former airport site at Kai Tak, and will restart the planning process based on the 'zero reclamation' principle.

"We want the public to know the Government is not just paying lip service to harbour protection," Mr Suen said.
