Green idea: Transport Advisory Committee Chairman Jeffrey Lam says the proposed Causeway Bay pedestrian plan will help improve the environment.

The Transport Advisory Committee has welcomed the Government's proposals to improve the environment and pedestrian safety in Causeway Bay.

Committee members were briefed on the pedestrian plan at a meeting today, which also aims to cut pollution.

Committee Chairman Jeffrey Lam said: "Better planning for pedestrians helps enhance the quality of our living environment and bring a positive impact on the economy. We welcome proposals to improve the environment and safety for pedestrians and to reduce pollution in Causeway Bay.

"We hope the administration will take full account of the views collected during the public consultation process, especially the impact on the transport trades and map out the best way forward for the implementation of the proposals."

Mr Lam also announced that he will resign from the committee after serving it for seven years. He was appointed chairman in April upon the retirement of former chairman Cheng Hon-kwan. The Government will appoint a new chairman soon.
