HK, Guangdong to host technology event

Information Technology Commission

The Innovation & Technology Commission and Guangdong's Department of Science & Technology will hold a seminar on Electronics & Communications Technologies in Guangzhou on July 22.

It will also promote Hong Kong's New Strategy of Innovation & Technology Development, released recently for consultation and aimed to improve the relevance of applied research and development to the needs of the industry.

The key initiatives of the new strategy are to identify technology focus areas where Hong Kong has comparative advantages and potential for meeting market needs, and to set up centres to co-ordinate research and development in the focus areas. Emphasis will also be on strengthening co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong in promoting technology transfer.

The two authorities are jointly organising seminars in the Pearl River Delta to introduce to Mainland enterprises the new strategy and Hong Kong's achievements in research and development.

Innovation & Technology Commissioner to attend

Commissioner for Innovation & Technology Anthony Wong and Guangdong Department of Science & Technology Director-General Professor Xie Mingquan will officiate at the opening ceremony. More than 150 representatives from enterprises in the Pearl River Delta, and the research and development community and industry in Hong Kong will attend.

Hong Kong will introduce eight projects supported by the Innovation & Technology Fund, which focus on areas ranging from integrated circuit design infrastructure and development, biosensors for medical use, printed circuit board assembly technologies, switching power supply design software, to multimedia and mobile communications technologies.

Renowned Hong Kong product designer Alan Yip will speak on product design while the Vice-Chairman and Executive Director of Guangdong Kelon Electrical Liu Congmeng will give a luncheon talk.
