More MTR fare offers urged

Further measures to attract more West Rail passengers to interchange with the MTR at Nam Cheong and Mei Foo Stations are being considered.

Responding to legislators' enquiries today, Secretary for Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao said the Government is encouraging the MTR Corporation to consider new offers as its 10% introductory fare discount expires on March 31.

She said the scheme's effect is being assessed by the corporation and it will decide and announce the way forward in due course.

The corporation launched the discount in December in conjunction with the commissioning of Nam Cheong and Mei Foo Stations as interchange facilities with the West Rail.

The deal covered Octopus cardholders' fares to or from the stations to any destination, excluding Airport Express journeys.

A daily average of about 16,000 and 89,000 commuters enjoyed the discounts at Nam Cheong and Mei Foo Stations respectively.
