A development plan for Lantau will be drawn up in the third quarter of this year to gauge public opinion on the various proposals being considered for the island, the Lantau Development Task Force says.
Subject to public feedback, the relevant bureaus and departments will conduct feasibility studies on individual development proposals, including impact assessments in respect of the environment, transport and supporting infrastructure.
At its first meeting today, the task force, chaired by Financial Secretary Henry Tang, initially identified a few key development proposals for Lantau.
They include a value-added logistics park in Tai Ho, a tourist spot in Sunny Bay, possible leisure and recreational development in Chi Ma Wan and North East Lantau.
In particular, the task force has agreed that the proposed logistics park should be developed as soon as possible, as it would reinforce Hong Kong's status as the premier international logistics hub in Asia.
Working group to fast-track logistics park
A working group, to be led by the Economic Development & Labour Bureau, with support from relevant departments, will be formed to fast-track the implementation of the project.
The task force says the logistics park, together with other planned projects on Lantau, such as Disneyland, the Tung Chung Cable Car and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, will make the island a focus of environmentally sustainable infrastructure in the coming decade.
The task force will meet every three months to provide direction for the ongoing work. For its membership and terms of reference, click here.
