Transport sector receipts up 9%

The transport sector recorded total receipts of $302.4 billion last year, 9% higher than a year earlier, while the gross surplus climbed 27% to $42.2 billion, the Census & Statistics Department says.

 

Releasing findings of an annual survey on transport and related services today, the department said the gross surplus accounted for 13.9% of total receipts.

 

The sector's value added, a measure of its contribution to our GDP, amounted to $89.5 billion, up 5% on the previous year.

 

26% value added increase in air transport

The five largest value added major industry groups were air transport, land passenger transport, services incidental to transport, ocean and coastal water transport, and land freight transport. They together accounted for 89% of the total value added of the whole transport sector.

 

Value-added increases were observed in air transport (26%), inland water transport (6%) and services incidental to transport (3%).

 

Value-added falls were seen in land freight transport (4%), supporting services to water transport (4%), ocean and coastal water transport (3%), land passenger transport (3%) and supporting services to land transport (2%).
