$138.3m works to improve boundary facilities
*

A $138.3 million contract was signed for the design and construction of the approach viaducts to the new boundary bridge between Lok Ma Chau and Huanggang by late 2004.

They include the construction of dual two-lane approach viaducts and ramps linking the Lok Ma Chau control point with the new boundary bridge, and the associated road, bridge and drainage systems.

They will ease the traffic flow between Hong Kong and the Mainland, improving traffic management by segregating passenger and goods vehicles.

Passenger vehicles will use the existing boundary bridge and good vehicles will use the new bridge.

The new bridge between Hong Kong and Shenzhen will be designed and constructed under a separate contract, which the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government will award and supervise.

Signing today's contract with the China State Joint Venture was the Highways Department's Project Manager for Major Works Ng Kwok-kei.
