Lai Chi Kok viaduct to be ready in 2007
*

The Highways Department today signed a $1.066 billion contract to start construction of the Lai Chi Kok Viaduct. The project began in September and is slated for completion in April 2007.

The contract, with Spanish firm NECSO Entrecanales Cubiertas, relates to part of a route between Cheung Sha Wan and Sha Tin, which is in the Government's plan to improve the road capacity between Sha Tin and Kowloon.

The works will help cope with the future traffic demand generated by developments in Northeast New Territories and an increase in cross-boundary traffic.

The contract includes building a 1.4-kilometre dual three-lane viaduct from the Lai Wan interchange in West Kowloon to Butterfly Valley, and associated noise mitigation measures and landscaping works.
