The Government has appointed five new members and 16 incumbent members to the Provisional Construction Industry Co-ordination Board for one year with immediate effect.

The new appointees are: Lau Chi-keung, General Manager of Henderson Land Development Company Limited; Albert Cheung, Managing Director of Levett & Bailey Chartered Quantity Surveyors Limited; Martin Hadaway, Group Managing Director of Gammon Skanska Limited; Peter Lee, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Hong Kong; and Nicolas Yeung, Convener and Founding Director of the Construction Industry Institute of Hong Kong.

Noting that all new members are all respected figures in their respective professional fields, the Government believed they will provide necessary expertise and bring in additional impetus for the Board to pursue strategic change initiatives.

Established in September, 2001, the Board has become a focal point of collaboration to take forward recommendations the Construction Industry Review Committee makes.

As the precursor of a statutory co-ordinating body, it also deliberates on industry-wide issues and serves as a primary channel for the Government to obtain feedback on construction-related matters.

Former members Edward Cheng, Professor Lee Chack-fan, Stephen Liu and Louis Wong, who had served on the Board since its inception, have retired.

The Government has expressed its sincere gratitude for their valuable advice and unflagging support over the past two years.

They played a large role in nurturing a change of mindset among industry stakeholders, and their contribution will pave the way for efforts to uplift the quality, competitiveness and cost-effectiveness of Hong Kong's construction industry.
