A consultation is set to start on the process for ensuring wide community involvement in drawing up a sustainable development strategy for Hong Kong.
A stakeholder workshop will be organised to seek views on the proposed engagement process.
At the third meeting of the Council for Sustainable Development today, Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang said it is important to allow the community to participate throughout the process of deliberation on the key issues that will affect our long-term sustainability.
Strategy Sub-Committee Chairman Dr Edgar Cheng said the formulation of the strategy has to be a transparent and participatory process that promotes accountability and partnership between the Government and various sectors of the community.
The council also noted that progress has been made with other important initiatives, in particular the launching of the $100 million Sustainable Development Fund on September 6. The fund is open for applications until December 1.
Interested organisations are encouraged to make use of the fund and a workshop will be held on September 27 to brief potential applicants on application and assessment procedures.
