Land resumption resumes for Deep Bay Link

*

As the start of construction of the Deep Bay Link draws near, the Government continued with land resumption in Tuen Mun today.

A total of 195 structures, 21 domestic families and four industrial and commercial undertakings were cleared.

The resumption work at Fuk Hang Tsuen began about 11am and finished at 5pm. All structures cleared were either vacant or the occupants agreed to move out. The Government thanked those affected for their co-operation.

The Housing and Lands Departments contacted those affected in March last year soon after the gazettal of the Deep Bay Link project. Pre-clearance notices and land resumption notices were served last March.

Offering advice and assistance to facilitate their early removal and to resolve any outstanding matters, the Government has liaised closely with those affected.

They have been compensated in accordance with existing policies and that compensation has been offered to most of those eligible.

Rehousing arrangements have been made for those affected who are eligible for public rental housing. No one will be rendered homeless as a result of the clearance exercise.

The Deep Bay Link is a 5.4-km dual three-lane trunk road linking the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor from Ngau Hom Shek to Yuen Long Highway.

Construction started late last month, for completion by the end of 2005.
