Two-day event celebrates Cyberport's progress

Cyberport landscape
Relaxed setting: Cyberport is high-tech inside and out. Despite its park-like setting, a wireless network keeps everyone on the campus connected.

To celebrate the official opening of its first two phases and a new Visitor's Centre, Cyberport has organised activities aimed at promoting awareness of this new international IT centre.

Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology Henry Tang, Cyberport Management Company Ltd Chairman John Strickland, and PCCW Group Managing Director & Deputy Chairman (designate) Jack So officiated at the ceremony this morning. More than 100 guests joined the celebration.

To mark this milestone in Hong Kong's IT history, the officiating guests jointly planted a time capsule containing an optical fibre, a Smart Hong Kong identity card, a photograph of Telegraph Bay prior to the construction of Cyberport and a Cyberport CD-ROM.

These items symbolise the breakthroughs made in the history of IT and the various stages of Cyberport's development.

From today through Sunday, Cyberport is hosting programmes with the theme of 'Discovering the New Age of IT'. They include an IT exhibition in which its tenants are participating, and a seminar targetted at IT professionals and students.

Receptions and workshops will also be held for the IT industry, public relations consultants and conference organisers.
