Man's limb numbness investigated
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a case in which a 65-year old man developed limb numbness after receiving the human swine flu vaccination.

He received the jab on December 29 last year. In early March, he developed numbness over the soles of both feet, followed by numbness in his fingers.

He sought medical attention at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on March 20. He did not need to be hospitalised and he is now stable.

Further investigations are underway to determine the diagnosis, including whether it is Guillain Barre Syndrome or another neurological condition.

The centre will monitor the clinical progress and lab results. The expert group will review information about the case to determine the diagnosis and cause.
