*

Gregory Leung has been appointed chairman of the Council on Human Reproductive Technology for two years from April 11.

Secretary for Food & Health Dr York Chow today said Mr Leung has extensive experience in public services with proven leadership skills.

"He supervised the drafting and introduction into the Legislative Council of the Human Reproductive Technology Bill in 1999 when he served as the Deputy Secretary for Health & Welfare from April 1997 to April 2001.

"With his rich knowledge about the Human Reproductive Technology Ordinance and its policy context, I am fully confident that Mr Leung will be able to lead the council to perform its statutory functions."

Dr Chow also thanked outgoing chairman Dr Leong Che-hung for his indispensable contribution to the regulation of the human reproductive technology activities in Hong Kong.
