Secretary for Development Carrie Lam told reporters the Buildings Department will carry out reinforcement works for the affected buildings at the site and will thoroughly investigate the cause of the collapse.
It will inspect about 4,000 buildings aged 50 years with similar architecture in Hong Kong from February 1, she added.
"We are going to set up 40 teams of professional and technical staff to go out to various parts of Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories to inspect these 4,000 buildings. The target is to complete these comprehensive inspections within a month. We will then follow up with the needed remedial action."
The Government will also study the feasibility of shortening the legislation timetable of the mandatory buildings and windows inspection schemes.
