The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a case of intrauterine death involving a pregnant 37-year-old woman who received a human swine flu vaccination in late December.

The woman, at 28 weeks of gestation, was suffering from a medical condition and was on regular medications. She passed an examination performed at a maternal and child-health centre on January 5.

On January 19 she reported decreased foetal movement and no foetal heartbeat could be detected when she attended the centre. She was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital and intrauterine death was confirmed. She is now stable.

Investigations for common causes of intrauterine death, including infection, genetic and metabolic disorders, are being conducted. There is no medical evidence presently to suggest the death was related to the human swine flu vaccination.

The Centre for Health Protection will monitor the clinical progress of the woman and laboratory results.
