The 58-year-old man who developed symptoms of Guillain-Barre Syndrome after receiving the human swine flu vaccine has recovered and been discharged from hospital.
Secretary for Food & Health Dr York Chow said it is uncertain whether the man's illness was related to the vaccination.
"The Centre for Health Protection has given the case summary to some international experts to seek their opinion," he said. "I am happy the patient has recovered so quickly. This is a good sign the treatment given to him is very effective."
He said the 3 million doses of human swine flu vaccine the Government bought should be enough to protect people from the winter flu peak, usually in February and March, as well as the summer flu peak in July and August.
"We do not see the need to buy more at the moment because a certain percentage of our community has already been immunised. I think the 3 million doses will be adequate for the coming year," he said.
He added the swine flu vaccine will be incorporated into the seasonal flu vaccine at the end of the year and the Government will be purchasing the seasonal flu vaccine as in previous years.
