HK promotes cross-strait art exchange
*

Hong Kong is best positioned to promote the development of Chinese theatre across the Taiwan Strait due to its unique geographical location blending the cultures of East and West, Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing says.

Speaking at the Symposium on the Development of the Theatrical Arts across the Straits today, Mr Tsang said cross-strait exchange on theatrical arts is getting closer.

"We look forward to strengthening our efforts on enhancing the local arts and cultural atmosphere, promoting cross-strait cultural exchanges and mutual development of talent and cultural resources. Through touring performances of selected works and building of influential brands, we aim to develop an extensive cultural market," he said.

About 80 participants, including arts practitioners, attended the symposium co-hosted by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Central Policy Unit. Experts from Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Mainland gave keynote speeches and joined roundtable discussions.

The event will integrate the experience and characteristics of mainstream theatres across the strait and examine the opportunities and challenges ahead for Chinese theatrical arts.
