40% of seniors join health-voucher scheme
*

More than 260,000 elderly had opened healthcare voucher accounts as at December 5, representing 40% of seniors eligible for the scheme. The Department of Health has processed more than 321,000 voucher claims.

Secretary for Food & Health Dr York Chow today told lawmakers 2,500 healthcare service providers across Hong Kong have enrolled in the scheme. The number of practices in each district ranges from 30 to 500.

"The scheme has been implemented for about one year. The administration will conduct an interim review in 2010 as pledged, and also a full review after the three-year pilot period has ended.

"The reviews will cover the effectiveness of the scheme, the appropriateness of its scope and subsidy amount. Besides conducting statistical analysis and reviews of operational details, we will also conduct surveys to gather feedback from both the elderly and healthcare service providers in the reviews," he said.
