Stunning victory: Hong Kong cyclist Steven Wong wins the first 2009 East Asian Games gold medal while Ma Liyun of China dashes to the tape in the cycling BMX women's elite final. Marco Fu joins his teammates to beat their opponents in the men's team snooker final.

Hong Kong athletes won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the 2009 East Asian Games today.

 

Hong Kong cyclist Steven Wong won the first 2009 East Asian Games gold medal while Chan Kwok-ming, Marco Fu and Fung Kwok-wai have won a gold medal in the men's team snooker match.

 

Eric Lee and Lee Chen-man also scored a silver medal and a bronze medal in the men's English billiards match. The Hong Kong team won a bronze medal  in men's table tennis, too.

 

Extending congratulations to Hong Kong athletes, Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing encouraged the Hong Kong delegation to strive for excellence and wished them every success in the upcoming events.

 

"Hong Kong athletes have demonstrated their excellent skills and perseverance at the very beginning of the games, seizing five medals. We are very proud of their outstanding achievements," Mr Tsang added.
