Design contest to salute Charles Kao
*

A stamp sheetlet design competition in honour of Prof Charles Kao being awarded the Nobel Prize is now open. Entries should be submitted to the Science Museum by December 4.

The competition is divided into two categories - open and student. The student division is sub-divided into secondary school and primary school divisions.

Students can choose to participate in either the student division or the open division. Entrants in all divisions are on an individual basis and each entrant can submit only one design.

Winners will receive cash prizes of $5,000, with second-place getters receiving $3,000 and $1,000 for third place. Winners of the merit prize in each division will receive $500. Certificates will also be presented to the winners.

Results will be announced on the Science Museum's website by mid-December. Winning entries will be considered by Hongkong Post for the production of a definitive stamp sheetlet to be issued in 2010. For details click here.

An exhibition highlighting Prof's Kao's contribution will run from December 8 to March 10 at the Science Museum and two special lectures will be held on December 12 and 20. For details call 2732 3232.
