Senior dies of swine flu

A 69-year-old woman with human swine flu died at Prince of Wales Hospital last night.

 

The Hospital Authority today said the patient had a history of lung cancer, hypertension, diabetes and heart disease.

 

She developed fever and upper respiratory symptoms and went to the Prince of Wales Hospital's accident and emergency department on October 2.

 

She was admitted to the hospital the same day and given antibiotics. She was confirmed to have contracted human swine flu on October 3, and passed away at 9.06pm yesterday.

 

Tuen Mun Hospital reports one of its patients confirmed to have human swine flu is in critical condition. The 57-year-old woman is also suffering from end-stage renal failure, diabetes and hypertension.

 

She developed flu symptoms on September 27 and went to Tuen Mun Hospital on October 3. She tested positive for human swine flu the next day and was given Tamiflu, Relenza and antibiotics.

 

She is on ventilation support.
