2 swine flu patients die
*

Two human swine flu patients aged 86 and 55 have died and two special schools will suspend classes for seven days due to outbreaks affecting 51 students.

The 86-year-old patient developed symptoms September 19 and was admitted to North District Hospital. He also had diabetes, renal disease, renal stones and a chronic intracranial haemorrhage.

He tested positive to the virus the following day and was given Tamiflu and antibiotics. He was critically ill September 26 and died at 11.42pm yesterday.

The 55-year-old patient came down with fever and respiratory symptoms and was admitted to Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital September 19. On admission he was found to have severe pneumonia. His condition deteriorated and he died in that afternoon.

He was a staff member of an Aberdeen school which reported an influenza outbreak earlier this month, affecting 16 students.

2 schools close

The schools are Sam Shui Natives Association Lau Pun Cheung School in Kwai Tsing and Shatin Public School in Sha Tin.

So far four students in the two schools have tested positive to swine flu. Three students have been hospitalised. All the affected students are stable.
