Smooth operation: Director of Health PY Lam (right) visits the Sai Ying Pun Maternal & Child Health Centre to see Auxiliary Medical Service members hand out anti-fever medicine to parents.

The Auxiliary Medical Service today put in place a set of new measures to improve the catch-up vaccination of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine for children at 29 maternal and child health centres.

The new measures include designating counters to provide the anti-fever medicine - syrup Paracetamol - to children aged below and above one  year of age.

Two members from the Auxiliary Medical Service man each counter and are responsible for checking the drug label against the age of children receiving the syrup to minimise the chance of mix-up.

The service said the vaccination programme ran smoothly today and more than 4,200 children turned up for their vaccinations.
