The fourth service centre for ethnic minorities, run with a Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Bureau funding grant, opened in Kwun Tong today.
Operated by the Hong Kong Christian Service, the centre is located at G/F, 5 Tsui Ping Road. Operating hours are 10am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sundays.
It offers classes on English, Cantonese, computer training, cultural understanding and orientation of community services. It also provides other services like translation, mutual support and counselling.
Telephone interpretation services to help ethnic minorities get access to public services are being planned.
The four centres are provided with a total of $8 million in one-off start-up costs and operating expenses for two years totalling $16 million annually.
The other three centres are operated by the International Social Service's Hong Kong Branch, Yuen Long Town Hall and Christian Action.
