A 42-year-old Tsuen Wan man has been infected with community-associated Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA), a drug resistant bacterium.
The Centre for Health Protection today said he has been diagnosed with endocarditis, septicaemia and pneumonia.
He came down with a fever, cough and chest discomfort August 10 and was admitted to Yan Chai Hospital. He was transferred to Queen Mary Hospital August 27 and is in serious condition.
MRSA is a type of Staphylococcus aureus that is resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. It is a common infection worldwide.
It is widely recognised that indiscriminate use of antibiotics can contribute to antibiotics resistance. The centre advised people not to use antibiotics without professional advice. For details click here.
