Disabled home swine flu outbreak reported

Fifteen residents and two staff at a Tsing Yi home for the disabled are ill with human swine flu.

 

The Centre for Health Protection said today the 17 people are among 16 residents and five staff who came down with a fever, cough and sore throat since August 21. The 11 men and 10 women, aged 23 to 54, sought medical treatment and are stable. One resident was hospitalised.

 

Tamiflu has been given to their close contacts as preventive medication. The institution is being put under medical surveillance.

 

There were 333 newly confirmed swine flu cases today involving 176 men and 157 women aged five months to 93 years. Two were from two elderly homes in Lam Tin and Yuen Long. Hong Kong's total tally has reached 10,089.
