EatSmart Restaurant Cooking Competition prize presentation ceremony

Winning recipes: Assistant Director of Health Dr Regina Ching and Director of Health Dr PY Lam sample the winning EatSmart competition entries.

The Department of Health is committed to promoting healthy eating and fostering a supportive environment for people to adopt good eating habits to improve their well-being.

This was the message from Director of Health Dr PY Lam at today's EatSmart Restaurant Cooking Competition prize presentation ceremony.

"Recent medical research shows moderate consumption of a balanced diet can reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and even cancer," he said.

He urged people to enjoy dishes with more fruit and vegetables and less oil, salt and sugar at EatSmart restaurants. With the full support of the catering industry, 555 restaurants have enrolled to become EatSmart Restaurants so far this year.

Since the launch of the EatSmart@restaurant.hk campaign last year, 800 practitioners in the catering business have received training on preparing healthy dishes.

The cooking competition received more than 110 entries from 51 restaurants. Click here for the competition results, to search for an updated list of EatSmart restaurants, for EatSmart recipes and useful nutritional information.
