20 ill in food poisonings
*
Centre for Food Safety

The Centre for Health Protection and the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department are investigating two food poisoning cases involving 20 people.

Four men and 11 women aged nine to 46 came down with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and fever after eating at a Hong Kong Island hotel August 7. Ten sought medical treatment.

Another two groups developed symptoms after dining in a Tai Po cooked food centre. They comprised two men aged 21 and 26 who ate at a food stall there on August 3, and a man and two women aged 23 to 50 who ate at the same stall and a nearby one on August 6. They have seen doctors.

People, especially food handlers, should observe good personal, food and environmental hygiene to prevent food-borne diseases. Click here for prevention tips.
