A Filipino maid who has been critically ill with human swine flu died at the United Christian Hospital today.

The Hospital Authority said the case has been referred to the Coroner by the hospital for investigation, while the Centre for Health Protection will report it to the World Health Organisation.

The 37-year-old arrived in Hong Kong June 28 to work for a couple living in Kwun Tong. She fell ill with flu-like symptoms the next day and sought medication from a private clinic. Her condition deteriorated and she was sent to the United Christian Hospital's intensive care unit July 7. She was confirmed to have the human swine flu virus July 11.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health has advised Shatin Pui Ying College to suspend a summer class for seven days from tomorrow due to human swine flu.

Twelve students including nine boys and three girls aged 13 and 14 who attended the school's summer class developed flu-like symptoms July 13.

Five confirmed to have the human swine flu virus.

One other, a 13-year-old boy, came down with fever, coughing and headache on July 24, and was admitted to the Prince of Wales Hospital this afternoon. All 12 are stable.

Health advice has been provided to the school while the students have been put under medical surveillance.

There were 153 newly confirmed swine flu cases today, involving 77 men and 76 women aged four months to 75 years, bringing Hong Kong's total tally to 2,855.
