Department of Health

Two in-bound travellers who had been on the same flight with three Japanese infected with human swine influenza have been taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for observation.

The Department of Health received notification from the World Health Organisation three Japanese passengers on flight NW025 arrived in Tokyo from Canada via the US on May 8 were confirmed to have been infected with the virus. Thirteen passengers on the flight transferred to other places, including two who stopped in Hong Kong.

One arrived in Hong Kong last night and was located by public health officers at a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel this afternoon. The other one was stopped by port health officers upon his arrival at the airport from Taiwan tonight.

They have so far developed no flu symptoms. The department is liaising with health authorities overseas to obtain more information on the three cases and the whereabouts of the other 11 passengers who left Japan.
