The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed a case of human myiasis in an 83-year-old Yuen Long man who died after being admitted to hospital with multiple health problems.

The elderly home resident was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital on March 21 with a fever and gum bleeding. Maggots were found in his oval cavity.

He was also diagnosed with pneumonia and put on intravenous antibiotics. He died the next day.
