Healthcare voucher scheme unfolding well

Department of Health

The Department of Health said the response to the healthcare voucher scheme in its first two days was encouraging.

There were 469 transactions using healthcare vouchers up to 5pm today. Among them, about 73% claimed one or two $50 vouchers.

The department was pleased to learn most eligible seniors did not rush to claim the vouchers within a short period, using them only as necessary.

More than 2,200 applications from healthcare providers have been received since the enrollment commenced last September.

Among them, 1,783 providers have completed the enrolment process and can start offering services under the scheme.

Some people have encountered difficulties when using e-Health, the scheme's electronic platform.

Opinions sought

The department believes in the early stage of implementation it is not unusual for individuals to encounter some difficulties in using the vouchers. Its special unit has taken care of these cases.

The department also appreciates opinions from healthcare workers and members of the public on the scheme and will monitor its implementation.

A scheme evaluation will be conducted after a year and a more comprehensive one will be carried out in three years.
