Yuen Long woman hospitalised for myiasis

*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection today confirmed a human myiasis case involving a 79-year-old Yuen Long woman.

She was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital December 18 with maggots in a right foot wound. She is stable.

It was the eighth case this year, with 14 last year.

Human myiasis cases are caused by the parasitic maggots of flies which infest wounds and body orifices of debilitated people.
