Street management advice welcomed

*

The Ombudsman's recommendations on street management have been welcomed by the Government, which will study the measures and issue a progress report in six months.

The measures cover the indiscriminate placing of skips on the roadside, illegal bicycle parking, and obstruction and nuisance from on-street promotions.

The Government has adopted a three-pronged strategy to deal with the bicycle problem, covering public education, providing more parking facilities, and enforcement action.

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department recently launched a pilot scheme to take prosecution action on easy-mount stands in Wan Chai and Yau Tsim Mong Districts. The ground situation improved noticeably after the trial, with positive feedback from District Councils and the public.
