6 recovering from ciguatoxin poisoning

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed three ciguatoxin poisoning cases involving six people who bought fish from the same market stall.

 

The first involved a man and two women, aged 20 to 50, who fell ill after eating coral reef fish at home on December 12. Two sought treatment at North District Hospital and are stable.

 

In the second case a man and a woman aged 56 and 51 fell ill after eating coral reef fish at home on the same day. The man was admitted to the same hospital and was discharged today.

 

The third case affected a 63-year-old woman who fell ill after eating coral reef fish at home on December 13. She sought medical attention at the same hospital and is stable.

 

The fish were purchased from a stall in Shek Wu Hui Market, Sheung Shui.
