Site inspection: Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing inspects minor works projects in Tai Po.
*

Hong Kong's 18 districts will all actively conduct minor works projects to improve community facilities and create job opportunities to help offset the financial turmoil.

This was the message from Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing while inspecting minor works projects in Tai Po today.

He toured Tai Po Community Centre to learn about the centre's improvement project. Funded by the Tai Po District Council's minor district works programme, the project includes exterior and interior renovations and installation of an audio-visual system. The $6.2 million works will be completed by mid-2009.

More projects

Tai Po District Council has so far endorsed 47 district minor works projects with a total construction cost of more than $29 million.

The types of works include the beautification of the community environment and improvement of leisure and cultural facilities, installation of permanent lighting, provision of sitting-out areas, rain-shelters and seats, and the renovation of community facilities.

The Home Affairs Department will co-operate with the District Councils to expedite the implementation of the projects.

Mr Tsang also visited the Lam Tsuen Wishing Square where he was briefed on its development plan. He also visited the dawn market in front of the Tai Po Rural Committee where local villagers can sell self-cultivating farm products.
