The Centre for Health Protection confirmed today an Enterovirus-71 case involving a four-year-old boy, bringing the year's total to 98.

He came down with fever and oral ulcers November 18 and sought medical treatment from a doctor. He is stable.

Four other children in his nursery have had hand-foot-mouth disease symptoms since November 14, and sought medical treatment from private doctors.

There were 12 EV-71 cases last year, 35 in 2004, eight in 2005 and 16 in 2006. Click here for health tips or call the Central Health Education hotline 2833 0111.
