Toddler ill with enteroviral infection
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed today an Enterovirus-71 infection involving an 11-month-old boy, bringing the year's total to 94.

The toddler came down with fever, a runny nose, cough and a rash on his hands and feet on October 21. He was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital on November 1 and is stable.

His family members did not show any symptoms. However, the boy had visited the Mainland recently and his 18-month-old cousin living there had mouth ulcers.

There were 12 EV-71 cases last year, 35 in 2004, eight in 2005 and 16 in 2006. Click here for health tips, or call the Central Health Education hotline, 2833 0111.
