41 students ill with respiratory infections
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has received two reports of respiratory tract infection outbreaks affecting 41 students - 20 from a Kowloon City primary school and 21 from a Wan Chai kindergarten.

The primary students - 12 boys and eight girls aged six to eight - came down with fever, cough, runny nose and sore throat from November 3 to 10. The 21 kindergarten pupils involved five boys and 16 girls aged five who had similar symptoms from November 5 to 10.

Of them, 40 consulted general practitioners or out-patient clinics, with one attending a hospital's emergency department. None required hospitalisation.

The centre has visited the schools and provided health advice to the staff. It urged people to take preventive measures against respiratory tract infection by observing strict environmental and personal hygiene.
