Lotte cake exceeds melamine limit
*
Centre for Food Safety

The Centre for Food Safety's melamine test results today have found a sample of Lotte cream cheese cake unsatisfactory. It has asked the trade to stop selling the product and the importer to recall it.

The level of melamine detected in the product - net weight 27.5g x 6 pieces, best before date 17.7.2009 - is 3.4ppm, exceeding the 2.5ppm legal limit. People should stop consuming the cake.

Today's results also showed the other 77 samples tested were satisfactory. They included a nutrition supplement for hospital use, imported milk beverages, baby food, ice-cream, cream, cakes, biscuits, cookies and raw milk, and locally-produced buns.

The centre has so far tested about 230 locally produced and imported frozen confection samples, and 10 nutrition supplements for hospital use. All are satisfactory.
