Outstanding readers receive awards

Book worms: Hong Kong Reading Association Vice-President Dr Samuel Leung presents prizes to the reading programme winners.

*

Nearly 100 participants of the reading programme for children and youth have received certificates in recognition of their efforts and services to the Hong Kong Public Libraries.

Fifty participants achieved the outstanding award for having read books about many subjects over the past year. Another 38 members were awarded book report star of the month for their outstanding and creative reports.

The five most active schools in the programme were SKH Yan Laap Primary School, Aberdeen St Peter's Catholic Primary School, Pak Tin Catholic Primary School, SKH Lee Shiu Keung Primary School and Hong Kong and Macau Lutheran Church Primary School.

Eight library volunteers, who had contributed more than 100 hours of service in the past year, were presented with gold certificates.

Speaking at the ceremony at the Hong Kong Central Library, the Assistant Director of Leisure & Cultural Services (Libraries & Development) Lee Yuk-man said that the public libraries cultivate youths' interest in reading.

He added that the reading programme for children and youth had solid community support. He encouraged the participants to make reading a habit and to share their good read so that it becomes a hobby for others.

People who are interested in the reading programmes and in being library volunteers can contact any public library, or click here.
