Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection today confirmed an 11-month-old boy died of enterovirus 71.

The boy, who had not traveled to Hong Kong recently, passed away in the Prince of Wales Hospital yesterday. A relative brought his three-year-old sister from Haifeng to Hong Kong this morning, and she was admitted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital with fever and rash. She is now in stable condition.

She has also tested positive for EV71. The girl had not travelled to Hong Kong recently.

The centre has informed Guangdong's health department of the case.
