Matthew Cheung visits International Social Services Hong Kong Branch in Yuen Long
Travel aid: Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung talks to Transport Support Scheme applicants at the International Social Services Hong Kong Branch in Yuen Long.

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung has visited Yuen Long to learn more about the district's social welfare services and facilities.

Mr Cheung today toured the Social Welfare Department's Yuen Long (West) Integrated Family Service Centre and was briefed on the Long Yat Project which promotes mutual-help awareness and enhanced neighbourhood support.

The project provides timely referral services to needy families through proactive outreach efforts. A host of activities include ambassador training programmes, group activities and experience-sharing sessions.

"The project is a classic example of how mutual help programmes can help us improve ourselves while at the same time influence others to turn for the better," Mr Cheung said.

"I encourage more Yuen Long residents to take part in this very successful project to help make our community a better place to live."

Mr Cheung then visited the office of the International Social Services Hong Kong Branch to learn about the body's work. He commended the body as a reliable and reputable social welfare organisation and thanked its staff for their support.

Before concluding his visit Mr Cheung met a family at Yeung Uk San Tsuen to learn about their living conditions.
