Ice cream samples free of pathogens

The Centre for Food Safety has found no pathogens in any ice cream product samples in a recent food surveillance to assess the microbiological quality.

The 1,000 samples, including soft ice cream, sundaes, ice cream in wrappers, ice cream scoops and popsicles, were collected from various venues. They all tested negative for pathogens, including salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus.

However, two soft ice cream samples contained coliform organisms possibly due to sub-optimal hygienic conditions during processing. A warning letter has been issued to the food premises concerned.
