Course conditions: Equestrian Company Chief Executive Officer WK Lam briefs the media on the rainy third day of the Olympic equestrian events at Beas River.

The third day of the Olympic equestrian events went smoothly despite rain and four falls during the cross-country competition, Equestrian Company Chief Executive Officer WK Lam says.

More than 10,000 spectators braved rainy conditions to watch this morning's action at Beas River. Four riders fell, including China's Alex Hua and New Zealander Andrew Nicholson. Mr Lam said the incidents were minor and caused no injuries.

"Technically speaking we had a zero-accident achievement today," he said, adding the International Equestrian Federation did not think the incidents were related to the course design or spectators holding umbrellas. The course strictly follows the federation's guidelines and the body has hailed the organisation of the events.

The jumping competitions will be held tomorrow night in Sha Tin followed by Hong Kong's debut Olympic medal presentation ceremony.

Assistant Commissioner of Transport Cindy Law warned traffic will be heavy in Sha Tin and Ma On Shan, and urged spectators to take public transport to the venue.
