Safety reminder for cross-country spectators
*

Equestrian Company Chief Executive Officer WK Lam has urged spectators attending the Olympic equestrian cross-country events in Beas River on Monday to pay special attention to safety rules.

Speaking to reporters this afternoon, Mr Lam said about 12,000 and 11,000 spectators attended the dressage events last night and this morning, adding the events have been running smoothly so far.

About 70 horses will participate in tomorrow's cross-country events. There will be no spectator stands because the cross-country course is large. Rest areas, however, will be set up at the venue.

Safety tips

Since participating horses' fast movement may pose danger to spectators, they should not cross the safety ropes and should follow venue staff's instructions.

As the contest is an outdoor game, spectators are advised to wear sports shoes and comfortable clothes and bring along their raincoats.

Spectators are not allowed to bring in liquids, but each will be provided with a bottle of drinking water. Food will also be sold at the venue.

Free shuttle bus services will be provided from Fanling MTR Stations and special traffic arrangements will be implemented in the nearby area from 6am to 2pm. For details, click here.

Security measures

On the bomb attack in Xinjiang this morning, Police said they will contact Mainland authorities to seek more information for analysis and risk assessment.

Noting Hong Kong's security threat is moderate, Police said there is no intelligence so far about potential attacks on Hong Kong. They will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the city's and events' safety.

On recent criticisms of security measures, Police said a balance must be maintained between ensuring safety and facilitating spectators. The existing arrangements are in line with international sports events' standard.
