Unsafe drug: Consumers should avoid slimming product Yu Xiu Tang Yang Yan Jiao Nang which contains an undeclared drug ingredient.

The Department of Health has urged consumers not to buy or consume slimming product Yu Xiu Tang Yang Yan Jiao Nang which contains an undeclared drug ingredient.

A woman who consumed the product was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital July 24. The department found the product contained sibutramine.

Sibutramine is a Western drug used as an appetite suppressant. However, it can cause increased blood pressure and heart rate, and people with heart problems should not take it. Products containing sibutramine must be registered before they can be sold in Hong Kong.
